I consulted a life coach in Cape Town, South Africa because I needed some technical knowledge about my field. .
I kept asking him questions like "How does one get first world search engines to send the same degree of traffic one had in the first world to the third world?"
He had, after all, advertised himself as a specialist and expert in the writing field.
He kept turning the questions around and redirecting them back at me. I was growing more and more frustrated, but I tried to reign in my temper and kept politely answering his fucking questions.
I hoped that eventually he would answer me. After some two hours of this, I realized that he didn't know, and that he was no specialist at all. I politely told him I was tired and needed to go as I had some other business to conduct.
This fucking idiot then wrote me an email and wanted to know 'how the session went.' I told him that he had not answered a single question I had asked him, and how he thought it went. I also let rip telling him that I had consulted him for information, and that he had wasted two fucking hours of my time asking me questions that had nothing to do with why I consulted him.
I think it would be advisable for life coaches to explain upfront that they aren't actually experts in a field, that they do not give expert advice, and that they are there to hold one's hand in case one needs courage.
I do not need courage.
