I believe you. Like you, I have been a professional editor and writer for a very long time. That included proofreader while I worked for a publishing company.

Like you, I was rejected from a few magazines, and told that my work was not up to standard. In two of the three cases, the piece was selected for further distribution.

The real problem was that the pieces went against the ethos of the magazines. ;)
