I applied for a job at a certain company. They wanted me to do tests. One of the consistent questions, in various guises, was "Do you always come first?" "Do you always produce the best?"

I said yes to all of them.

Imagine my surprise when some six months later, after my boss kept upping my work load, I said that it didn't work for me. I took the job because it didn't have a lot of work, and I was prepared for the low salary.

She then said something to me that I have never forgotten.

"You've got a type A personality - that's why I employed you."

It turned out that some tests seem to think that if you are always first that it must be because you work your guts out and are competitive. For me, it was simply that I was gifted. I have never worked at anything in my life - except survival (I have Aspergers').

We parted company.
