Here's something I don't get - this incessant thing about writers supporting each other. Why? Doctors don't support each other. Lawyers don't support each other. Storekeepers don't support each other

Sure I have a good few friends who are writers like me, and, yes, we met through being writing colleagues. But here's the thing. We didn't become friends because we were writers. We became friends because we share the same politics, the same values, and some other interests.
