Here’s how to fix a typo in someone else’s article… I know it’s irritating to see, but it’s a simple fix. You first highlight the area that needs to be fixed, then you click on the ‘note’ icon on the far right, and then you write a note to the author pointing out what needs to be fixed.
Of course, you can also drop a private note to an author if you don’t want to comment on something publicly. Sometimes, you won’t see this lock icon. That’s because the author of the piece does not want to receive notes.
When you leave a note for the author, only the author can see the note. Also, if you submit a draft with notes from other people to a publication, the editor of the publication you submit your article to, can see the note.
If you have received a note from someone else, there will be a star on your article. When you click the star, you will be able to see the note. You can then respond to the note, and you also have the option of deleting it.
You are also limited to a certain number of characters, and when you attempt to send a note, it will tell you that you have gone over the llimit, so you need to keep your notes short. You can read about notes on the Medium help pages.
