Having read many magazines during the 70s, I can tell you that they were full of stories about how women should work. Also having grown up in South Africa at a time when we were the richest country in the world |(due to our gold, diamonds, etc.), this was not about having a difficult time financially.

I grew up in a home with three full time servants, private schooling, etc. during the 60s.
