Go to Glassdoor and look at the salaries that Medium staff are earning. These cuts weren't a mistake. They are here to stay. They know some writers will leave. They don't care.

It's much cheaper for them to have low quality writers than high quality writers. I think there may be more writers than readers on Medium. This is why the constant emphasis on engagement.
