Does the Pope Really Matter?
I cannot think of anything worthy that he does. Can you?
There are people out there who will kiss the robes of the pope. I feel the same way about that as I do about people who curtsy or bow to kings and queens. What on earth makes any one human superior to the other?
I can think of a few things. Let me list some of them.
- A great intellect that solves world hunger without harming the planet
- Great generosity in giving money in a way that benefits local communities, e.g. building homes for the poor, improving schools in poorer districts, and so on.
- A designer who invents an anti-weapon. It immediately immobilizes all weapons.
You get my drift! What do kings and queens and popes and politicians do?
What does the pope do?
The pope acts as head of the Roman Catholic Church, and the Roman Catholic Church has 1.39 billion members. That’s about 16.5% of the people on this planet. What is mindblowing is that, for the most part, these people really believe that there is something special about the pope. I doubt it. To my mind, anyone who presides over that much wealth, and who is not actively selling up in order to build homes and improve the general infrastructure of…
