Certainly South Africa had an exceptionally high HIV rate. I remember the headlines when it was discovered.

Shamans (we call them sangomas) taught me. That to get rid of AIDS they must rape a baby. There is a reason South Africa has the highest baby rape in the world. Then, again, we are the rape capital of the world.

Also, I can't remember whether it was Thabo Mbeki or Cyril Ramaphose but one of them declined HIV medication. He thought it was flu or something.

Amazing that the president of a country can believe something like that.

South Africa had sanctions from 1979 to about 1992. It bankrupted us. When Nelson Mandela took over, South Africa was bankrupt. It had nothing to do with the rest of the world paying us peanuts. It was the shortsightedness of sanctions.

Mandela did the best he could, but he didn't do what was necessary. He should have nationalized the wealth of the country and use it to provide education, electricity, clean water, and housing. He didn't.

Jacob Zuma, one of our presidents, has a year six education. He raped a girl of 13 while president. He knew she was HIV positive. When asked in court if he had worn a condom, he said no, he washed himself afterwards

South Africa will not survive - not because the west undepays them (they do), but because of the corruption, ignorance, and incompetence of the government.

As a child in the 50s and 60s, Rhodesia was known as the breadbasket of Africa. After Mugabe took over, he murdered all the tribes/people whom he didn't like or who opposed him. He confiscated farmlands from competent people because they were white. Today, nearly half a century later, Zimbabwe is poor, unable to provide for itself, and sadly, it has nothing to do with the west
