Can't read the New Yorker. Too longwinded, and it never gets to the point. I think that American and Brits may have been the luckiest generation alive, but I don't think rest of us were.

Certainly, those of us born into apartheid, with a banned press, no television, sanctions, etc weren't. Nor would the Japanese and Germans recovering from WW2.

If you could let me have the gist of the article, I can respond.
