Because Medium is deetermined to have all newbie writers have readers. So the minute you are a newbie writer, your articles are pushed onto other writers.

Take a look at all the people who are adding you. They are all newbies. At least mine have been, so I assume it's the same for others.

As a consequence, another thing that happens is that these newbie writers are adding other writers, not because they are interested in reading them, but because they have bought into the follow for follow fallacy.
