Because I don't believe for a moment that these people don't actually have enough money for food. I think they actually enjoy hunting. And it sounds very much like it's a social occasion.

Please also understand I abhor the cruelty that is the meat market - the way animals are slaughtered, and I also understand that meat is necessary to the human diet (at least, I believe that - although I try to eat only sufficient not to develop shortages).

Hunting in the wild at this time in history, when all our animal stocks are being depleted is not a climate friendly thing to do. We need to leave the wilds alone. Also, there is a vast different between hunting with a gun when the animal stands little chance and hunting 30,000 years ago when mankind had to run and use spears, and hunt in a group to get the animal down. There were a) far more animals and b) far fewer men.

I genuinely don't believe that all these people who hunt are doing it because they have so few pennies that they can't afford to buy meat. The very fact that they can afford guns, the ammo, and all the hunting gear says otherwise.

They do this primarily because it's a sport to them. The food is secondary.
