As an ex software engineer and an ex web designer, no, it's actually not. All browsers kick out work that is not going to draw traffic, and whether you like it or not, people like me who read a lot, do actually pay attention to formatting.

If you write for any publication in the world (print), you will notice that when they go to print, they keep to certain formatting. That is what the Chicago Manual of Style and the Associated Press handbook are used for. Internationally, these guidelines are used everywhere.

We sight read, and when we do that, our reading speed is slowed down by formatting that is out of kilter.
