I have been fascinated for a long while now by the many millions that some people spend on a piece of paper. Okay, it’s canvas, and it has some drawings on it. The fact that these ‘paintings’ can be forged by others demonstrates that there is nothing spectacular at all about the ‘talent’ that painted them. People are born all the time who can replicate them.

Mona Lisa

Many decades ago I went to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa. There was a crowd that went on forever, and to this day, I have no idea what the fuss was about. Although I don’t remember it, the painting next to it was far nicer. So why is the Mona Lisa so famous?

Apparently, about 110 years ago, it was stolen and then found. Because it was stolen, the wires picked up the story, and everybody became aware that there was a painting called ‘the Mona Lisa.’ At the time Pablo Picasso was suspected of the theft but never arrested. The painting was found two years later when the thief wanted to sell it to an art dealer. The art dealer accepted, asked for the painting to be left overnight, and then notified the police. The thief was arrested, jailed for six…
