Any country in Sub-Saharan Africa. They all have the same issues. Poverty is rampant. Violence is the norm. It doesn't matter which country. I've lived in several, traveled to quite a few more.
And, no, you can't even put 'sexual assault' in the same breath as what is happening in Africa. In South Africa, for instance, it is thought that 40% of woman have been raped. We have the highest baby rape in the world. Murder and violence is thought to be greater than what is happening in Gaza.
I recently read stories by Nigerians living in Nigeria (people who had lived in Europe), and they say the country is descending in terrible times. In Northern Nigeria, Jihadi are constantly killing Christians, raping and capturing school girls. I think there are 9 different countries in Africa under Jihadi attack.
My point is that over-the-top fiction is a relief to many people - that fiction does not have to reflect life.
