And perhaps this lady's only exposure to Native American culture was what she saw in movies. Perhaps she liked it. You don't know otherwise.

I have just spent 5 years in South Africa. The white people there are, for the most part, truly racist. I was standing at a bus stop one day, and this guy had a really nice hat on. So I complimented him on it. He said 'thank you, and then he said "They really make you feel as if it's not your country, don't they?"

My jaw dropped.

Another time, my landlady took me out to a meal in a Chinese restaruant. She looked at the Chinese people and said, "They're really an ugly people, aren't they?"

Another time, I was at a gathering, and a guy was talking about Groote Schuur Hospital (where Chris Barnard did the first heart transplant). He was moaning about the number of Africans that were going there and said it would be a good thing if htey all died.

I heard these comments every single day, and I just had to get out (which is why I relocated in the middle of a pandemic).
