And every single person who lives in the new world, i.e. All the countries in South America, Canada, Australian, New Zealand, Africa, including my native South Africa, came from the old world. What I don’t get is why Americans think that they are unique in this, and why this makes them special.
Most Americans used to tell me that they were German, Irish, or some other nationality. I used to be very confused until I realized that Americans have this thing about their ancestors. They aren’t German or Irish or Dutch or anything else. They’re of German or Irish or Dutch extraction — which means that their ancestors came from there. To actually be a national of a country, you need to be born in that country and be eligible for their passport.
For instance, I have both a South African and a German passport. However, my great great grandparents on my mother’s side came from France, and my grandmother came from Poland. That does not mean I’m French or Polish.
Please explain to me of what relevance it is where your ancestors came from, and why Americans think there is anything spacial about the fact that their ancestors came from the old world. As I have said, the ancestors of all the other white people living in the world also came from the old world.
