American immigration policies are about the same as immigration policies of every other country in the world.

In order to immigrate to a country, you need to have a certain level of education, be able to support yourself financially, bring a skill that is scarce in the country you are immigrating to, have money to start a business,not have a criminal record, etc.

People who claim asylum or who are refugees are not immigrants. Claiming that economic migrants have achieved the same thing as legal immigrants is dishonest.
