America knew about climate change 50 years ago. Rachel Carson's book 'Silent Spring' was at the top of the bestslllers. I read it in 1970 and have been an environmentalist ever since.

Americans had good jobs then. They could have invested in massive public transport. They didn't. They were too busy partying, smoking pot, having sex. They went to to become businessmen, yuppies, and a thousand other things.

Nobody cares about the environment because they would have to give up quite a lot of things. Americans are reared to put their personal satisfaction above everything else.
