All movies are made for profit, whether cinematographic art or escapism. For myself, I have no interest in going to see a meaningful movie. I am sufficiently well read and experienced (at this point in my life) for me to be aware of most things.
I go to movies to escape reality. Most people do. For me, a movie is supposed to be entertaining - not a lecture in the meaning of life or to bring me some sort of awareness.
I live in Ireland by the way, and I am an EU citizen - not an American.
You said, "These films are out there and available from major outlets, e.g. Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video," Unfortunately, I don't have anything like that. I also don't want anything like that. I prefer to keep my life very simple. I'm content with YouTube and with having access to Plex through a friend who shares his membership.
Now there is something you did say where you can teach me something. What do you mean when you speak about cinematographic art. For me, an entertaining movie has a beginning, a middle, and an end. I don't want backflashes. I don't want symbolism. I don't want long silences in which I'm supposed to guess what is going on in people's minds.
I suppose I've never been interested enough in film - other than as a form of escapism - to find this out. So I'm asking you. What is cinematographic art?
