Ah, you thanked the writer for writing! That's not what I said. i said the writer thanked the reader for writing - other way round. :) That's a public relations exercise. The writer is hoping to gain you as a reader. :)

On the other hand, when the reader thanks the writer, it is because the writer has genuinely given something to the reader (well, I hope so.)
