Age Makes a Difference to How We See Things

When one is ancient (in terms of youth, anyway), it becomes clear that there is a vast difference between the way young people see things and the way old people see things. This has always been noted, with the cynics claiming that generational differences are a result of old people not being able to innovate, to cope with improvements, and so on, and so forth.

I put it to you that human nature never changes, and that old people have the benefit of examined life experience, that they have learnt from their mistakes, and that young people keep making the same mistakes generation after generation. I put it to you that humanity doesn’t move on to better social structures because the young do not learn from the old, and the old do not learn from the young.

My daughter is smart — make no mistake about that. She is highly educated, and she has a good head on her shoulders. Aside from that, she is a benevolent person, and no parent can wish for more than that. However, as much as I learn from her about how to do this on my phone…
