Immigration is a 2 year process - at least. You have to apply for it, complete forms, get police checks, prove you have a viable skill, get medical checks, etc. It generally works on a points system.

Migrants are people who just arrive in a country and want to stay. They generally have no skills. They arrive with nothing. Some of them lie out right about their age and the reason they are seeking asylum.
