Actually, the problem is voters — ignorant, stupid, self-serving voters. Leaders are voted in. There were excellent progressive candidates. Bernie Sanders is one of them. AOL is another. These are people who are concerned with justice for all, and they have the intelligence to do what needs to be done.

There is no such thing as freedom in the way you describe it. The only freedom we have is to do relatively simple things like feed ourselves, eat and sleep. We cannot drive through a red light. We cannot take out a gun and go out and shoot someone just because we feel like it.
